Many households across the country suffer from CSA. This is caused by newer homes being built so tight and the lack of adequate air filtration within the home. Whether it is Formaldehyde or other Volatile Organic Compounds used in the production of many of the items used in your home or it is naturally occurring particles like Pollen, Mold, Dust Mites, Bacteria or Viruses, these can all lead to CSA. All of our systems will eliminate your CSA problem and let you breathe easy.

All of our Bio Panel Filters are rated MERV 8. For pricing information please go to the Online Ordering section.
All air filters are shipped via UPS.

For over 18 years, Pure Air Systems, Inc. has been using the commercial grade, dual-layer, polyester ring panel furnace air filters as the prefilter for its HEPA Shield systems. These furnace air filters offer a 20% plus ASHRAE efficiency with a high dust holding capacity (330 grams) with high air flow and low resistance or pressure drop even when fully loaded. In addition, the design of the of the ring-panel furnace air filter allows for a small amount of the air filter media to extend past the ring, thus making for a tighter fit and great sealing ability when installed in the air filter slot. This means that as the furnace air filter loads up, all the air is forced to go through the filter instead of around the air filter. Many of the throw-away furnace air filters have no sealing capabilities and allow the smaller, respriable sized particles to pass around the air filter as the face of the filter loads up.

HEPA Furnace Air Filters

Unlike many of the throw-away furnace air filters on the market today, the BioPanel furnace air filters WILL NOT RESTRICT the air flow through the heating/cooling system, even when they are fully loaded.

The BioPanel furnace air filters come in 6 basic sizes, but can be ordered in any size. For most residential applications, the BioPanel furnace air filters are changed once every 3 to 4 months. These air filters are easy to change and can be installed in most heating/cooling air handling systems. If you are using a throw-away furnace air filter that is loading up quickly and adding too much resistance to your heating/cooling system fan, then you should try the BioPanel furnace air filters by Pure Air Systems, Inc.

FURNACE AIR FILTER COMPARISON

The Furnace Air Filter Performance Comparison chart provides a quick view of the overall efficiencies of the most commonly used furnace air filters for heating/cooling systems. These comparisons are based upon tests performed by CSA and ASHRAE. The air filters were compared to the HEPA air filters efficiency to remove particles at 0.3 microns in size.

While a number of furnace air filter types and air filtration systems were tested, we selected the five most commonly used furnace air filters along with the HEPA Shield systems. These test results are based upon both laboratory testing as well as in-situ (in real application) testing. We want you to remember to go to our Pure Air University section for more information on air filter efficiencies and pressure drop. ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANER (EAC):

There are a number of companies that offer Electronic Air Cleaners. This positive/negative charging device has very little airflow resistance but is only effective on large particles and only if it is cleaned every 3 - 4 weeks. The only decreasing efficiency air filter system on the market. No MERV rating.

ELECTROSTATIC FURNACE AIR FILTER:

These furnace air filters use a polypropylene or polyester woven media in a metal frame. Their claim to fame is they are washable. They are also not very effective at removing any small, respirable sized particles. They have metal frames; do not fit tightly and highly over rated. MERV 4 rating.

GENERAL DUTY 1" AND 2" PLEATED MEDIA FURNACE FILTER:

These are the furnace filters you normally purchase from the hardware store or discount stores. They usually have cardboard frames. They are an inexpensive media but really designed to remove the larger particles and keep the HVAC blower/motor clean. MERV 5 rating. They are an excellent furnace filter to use in conjunction with the HEPA Shield systems.

HIGH EFFICIENCY FILTRETE MEDIA TYPES:

This is the 3M type air filter. It is usually 1" in depth and comes in many sizes. Due to the very dense media in the filter it is relatively efficient. BUT. It has a very high initial pressure drop (very restrictive to airflow) and gets higher in a very short period of time (3 to 4 weeks). It can and will severely restrict the airflow through your HVAC unit and will require your heating/cooling system to run much longer just to heat and cool the house. We believe this is an improper application for this type of filter media. We do not recommend this furnace air filter for residential use. MERV 8 or 9 rating. 4" DEEP PLEATED AIR FILTERS (SPACE GARD TYPE):

There are number of companies that manufacture this type of furnace air filter. It is usually a 65% ASHRAE grade media. I has a fair amount of media so the its initial pressure drop is not too high. It has a fairly good efficiency on larger particles and is rated a MERV 8 or 9 depending upon the manufacturer. Some of the newer designs actually combine this air filter with an electronic grid. This type of furnace air filter needs to be changed at least once every 4 to 6 months or pressure drop will get too high. MERV 8 or 9.

PURE AIR SYSTEMS HEPA SHIELD FILTRATION SYSTEMS (PAS):

The three HEPA Shield models can either be attached to an existing HVAC unit in a partial by-pass configuration; used as a 100% in-line airflow unit or used in a stand-alone configuration. These units all use True, IES Specified, Hot DOP certified HEPA furnace air filters. The HEPA Shield units have their own blower/motors to take up the pressure drop across the three-stage air filtration system. As a result, the HEPA Shield systems add 0" (NO) additional pressure drop to the HVAC system an offer an initial air filter efficiency of 99.97% at 0.3 microns. These units are rated MERV 18. Furnace Air Filter Comparison Chart

The chart shows the comparisons between these 6 furnace air filters or air filter systems as they are rated at removing airborne particles that are 0.3 microns in size. Keep in mind, the most harmful particles and those that are aspirated in but remain in the lungs are less than 1 to 2 microns in size.

The numbers on the left side of the chart indicate the efficiency in percent of capture of the 0.3 micron sized particles. These charts are based on testing in the field as well as tests performed by third parties in laboratory conditions. For more information on our Furnace Air Filters and Comparisons, click here.
