Marketing any product, service, company or individual requires the use of some form of media. Social media is certainly one of the more popular and effective methods along with print advertising, video and the more expensive radio and TV advertising. However, the massive growth and use of social media; especially Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, have changed the way people gather information. Since most social media uses short text or attachment concepts, and people are connecting with their mobile devices more often than they use any other digital device, the public has become conditioned to getting information in small bits and pieces, rarely ever reading anything longer than 250 words. These blogs are approximately 500 words for that very reason.

Pure Air Systems, a company founded in 1985, manufactures a line of commercial grade HEPA and Carbon based fan powered air filtration systems. In 1985 there was no internet and most of the marketing was done via phone, telex, print advertising and good old get out and meet the customer techniques. Having long conversations and providing pages of information and documentation was essential in gaining the favor of potentially new customers. They even wanted to contact your existing customers by phone or personal visit to confirm that what you were selling would actually work for their application.

The advent of the internet changed forever the way information was transmitted. Instead of just contacting one customer at a time, now you could have your information out for anyone, anywhere to view 24/7. And, they could contact you via email to get more information, orders your products or send you information on their specific application without ever leaving their office. The world was your oyster..so to speak.

The use of websites grew and they became your first face to the new customers. It now became important to have as much easily accessible data, including photos, specifications, drawings, etc. on your website so your new potential customers could evaluate your product or service without ever talking to you directly. Pure Air Systems had a website in 1995 and since that time almost 70% of all their new business is generated primarily from the website. Customers can order systems or replacement filters anytime through the store portal, pay by credit card or PayPal and receive their confirmation and shipping information within minutes of placing their order. Fast, efficient and very convenient.

As the speed of sending and getting information increased and the amount of information grew, the social media system developed new ways to send and share information in less than 140 characters. This is where we are today. As we become overloaded with data we, as a self-preservation technique, buy into the short and sweet method of communications. Pure Air Systems has a new system they are marketing and the new four page flyer has more pictures than it is text. It is the new way of connecting. Whether we like it or not.
