In the industrial market there are a number of companies that produce batteries that contain components manufactured from lead. While the technology of producing batteries is changing rapidly there are still many operations that use lead.

Lead is still widely used for car batteries, pigments, ammunition, cable sheathing, weights for lifting, weight belts for diving, lead crystal glass, radiation protection and in some solders. It is often used to store corrosive liquids.

To produce the lead or when shaping or casting the lead, the particulates that are emitted are extremely dangerous when ingested into the body either through contact with the skin or inhaled.

Plants that make or use lead have their employees wear special clothing and wear respirators whenever they are in areas of lead production. These precautions are necessary as lead dust is very fine and will find its way to any part of the building or structure.

Pure Air Systems, a manufacturer of commercial grade HEPA filtration systems since 1985, has installed many of their 2000HS Plus units in plants where lead is made or utilized in production. In many cases the fan powered HEPA units are located in employee changing rooms or offices within the manufacturing complex.

These filters remove 99.99% of all particles .3 microns and larger and the use of variable speed drive motors allows for finite control of air volume from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM in one percent increments. This provides the correct movement of air for the application.

For example, when the changing rooms or offices are unoccupied the units can run at 30% of volume. When the employees are in the rooms changing out of their protective garments the fans will run up to 100% of volume so that any dust that is thrown into the air during changing is quickly removed.

My name is Don Musilli. I started Pure Air Systems in 1985 and then sold it in 2006. I continue to consult for PAS and write their blog and control their Twitter account. I also, on occasion, make changes to the website. The company is now almost 26 years old and has been a major player in offering commercial grade, high performance HEPA and Carbon based filtration systems for the commercial, institutional, industrial and residential markets.

I currently reside in Englewood, Florida where I write blogs and do social media marketing for a number of clients.
