The fires in the US West and Canada have been making life very difficult for millions of Americans who live near to or down wind from the forest fires. Smoke from Canadian fires has found its way into the New England states and many states in the Midwest are seeing smoke from the Western states fires. 

Smoke from burning wood and leaves is very dense and acrid and can create significant respiratory issues especially for those individuals with Asthma or lung issues. Senior citizens are often the most affected. But there are some remedies that allow for reduction and/or removal of the smoke and odor. 

Smoke from burning wood and leaves carries a series of chemicals in the smoke that can cling to any surface and release that odor for a long period of time. The use of general duty furnace filters will not really help much as the smoke particles are very tiny and will pass through these media filters. Only HEPA or HEPA type filters are designed to capture up to 99% of these particles and the additional use of Carbon media for odor adsorption is necessary to remove the smoke odor.
