Airborne Bacteria Removal and Reduction

For those individuals who live along the South West coast of Florida, this year has been especially challenging with the long last issues caused by Red Tide. This algae bloom is a common occurrence during the summer months and often begins out in the Gulf of Mexico. This year the Algae bloom has been larger and extends from Naples up to Tampa Bay. In addition, the blooms are toxic and kill sea life and produce an airborne bacteria that is harmful and potentially fatal to humans.

In 1985, Pure Air Systems was founded to bring true HEPA based air filtration systems to the residential market. These fan powered, metal housed units, are capable of providing surgery suite environments in all types of buildings and for all types of airborne contaminant applications. These true, commercial grade, scanned HEPA filters can remove up to 99.99% of all particles 0.3 microns and larger.

In the case of the Florida Red Tide issue, there are many days when the number of dead fish on the shore which produce a significant odor and also a release of toxic bacteria into the air which is blown onto shore and into the populated areas when the prevailing winds are out of the West. By applying the HEPA based technology used in the Pure Air Systems air filtration units, businesses and home owners along this stretch of shore line could effectively and safely remove a very high percentage of this airborne particulate and protect the health of those that live and work in this area.

The HEPA based air filtration systems offered by Pure Air Systems consist of small portables with volumes up to 350 CFM to large commercial units with volumes up to 2,000 CFM. PAS also utilizes variable speed drive motors so they can control the air volumes for 1 to 100% in 1% increments to provide the correct amount of air flow for the application. PAS units are used in the residential, commercial, institutional, medical and industrial markets.

Air Filtration For Coastal Areas

If you live on or near the coast line of the U.S. you know the pleasure of looking out over the water and hearing the crashing of the waves and that smell that only comes from being near a body of water. For most people it is very cathartic.

However, with the changing climate conditions and the continued lack of concern over dumping a wide variety of trash into our oceans and lakes, the development of various Algae and toxins is now being found off many coasts.

These toxins are airborne and are harmful to coastal birds, fish and humans. These airborne bacteria range in size from 3 to 10 microns and are not visible with the naked eye. This makes it more difficult to deal with as most people are concerned with what they can see.

In 1985, Pure Air Systems was founded and developed a high end HEPA based air filtration systems that could be attached to any force air ducted heating/cooling system with the ability to clean the entire home 24 to 48 times per day.

PAS uses scanned HEPA filters. These filters are certified to capture 99.99% of all particles 0.3 and larger and up to 99.95% of all particles 0.12 microns in size over time. This means they will remove any and all of the harmful airborne bacteria that comes on shore from the oceans and lakes .

For people with respiratory issues or asthma, these airborne particulate can exacerbate their ability to breath normally without some type of respirator or having to remain indoors when these toxic bacteria are released into the air.

PAS makes a line of fan powered HEPA filtration systems that include a small portable HEPA unit that can move up to 350 CFM of air to our largest system which can move up to 2,000 CFM of air. Except for the portable, the models 600HS, 1200HS and 2000HS can either be attached to an HVAC system or used as stand-alone units. .

Air Filtration For Asthmatics

For most individuals the ability to breathe is so automatic we almost never even think about the process. Only when we are subjected to a high amount of airborne dust or particulate or near smoke do we find it somewhat difficult to breathe.

For people who suffer from Asthma or other respiratory dysfunctions the ability to breathe normally is not taken for granted. They are very aware that at anytime they may suffer from an Asthma attack or their ability to breathe due to either their illness, airborne particulate or both.

Pure Air Systems has been manufacturing commercial grade HEPA based air filtration systems since 1985. These fan powered units are designed to work in concert with any type of HVAC system or as stand-alone units. And, these systems utilize the ECM variable speed drive motors so air volume control can be finite and they can be used anywhere in the world.

The PAS units can be attached to almost any home HVAC unit and provide a very high degree of airborne particulate removal of the size of the particulate that affects those individuals with respiratory dysfunctions.

The HEPA filters used in the line of systems offered by Pure Air Systems are called scanned HEPA filters. These filters have an initial efficiency of 99.99% at 0.3 microns and become more efficiency as they begin to collect the particulate.  You can see a 20 micron sized particle with the naked eye and these particles are normally aspirated in and then expelled easily.  The smaller particles, those less than 10 microns in size are easily trapped in the mucus membranes of the lungs and can cause irritation. These are the particles that create real health issues for those who suffer from Asthma.

Air Filtration For 3D Printing Labs

3D Printing or Additive manufacturing is now the eminent player in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution phase. This technology has opened the door to using materials to make almost anything we can think of and creating a technology that has opened the door for the development of new materials that are developed specifically use in 3D Printing.

Many of these materials are produced by either heating up printing nozzles to temperatures reaching 300 degrees C and above, or by using laser systems to melt metal in the new metal printers or jetting systems that use a wide variety of compounds for creating objects.

All of these systems produce either very fine particulate or significant odors or both. Since 3D Printing or Additive manufacturing is still relatively new, there have not been a lot of studies to determine the levels and size ranges of the particulates that are generated by these machines.

Pure Air Systems has been making HEPA and Carbon based fan powered, air filtration systems since 1985. These systems, ranging is air volume from 50 CFM to 2,000 CFM, are made from all metal housings, using commercial grade HEPA filters and variable speed drive ECM motors. The units come in a number of configurations and control options so they can be attached to any HVAC system , used as stand-alone units and the fans can be controlled to run at any speed.

These systems come with a ring panel prefilter, scanned HEPA certified to 99.99% at 0.3 microns and a large Carbon filter for odors and gases.

In a 3D Printing/Additive manufacturing environment the PAS systems could be used as stand-alone units pulling air from one to four machines and removing the fine airborne particulate. Many newer printers are enclosed so it is easy to attach a small duct to the enclosure and pull that air into the PAS HEPA system.

Another option is to attach the PAS system to the main HVAC units in the lab or production area and remove the particulate and odors using the main HVAC ducting system to pull all the contaminated air back to the filtration unit.

The Pure Air Systems HEPA units have been used on almost every application requiring filtration in almost every corner of the world. They have been used in applications where toxic gases and dangerous airborne particulate are present. Their rugged durability and history of high performance over long periods of time are the reason Pure Air Systems has been in business for 33 years.

Pure Air Systems New Website

Back in 1992 the internet was just starting to become more relevant and the only site that you could surf ( a term we used back then ) was Internet Explorer by Microsoft.

Pure Air Systems understood the value of using the internet as a mechanism for promoting our company and its’ products. Pure Air Systems was founded in 1985 so for the first 7 years we used traditional mailings and the phone for all of our marketing.

In 1992 we found a small company that could build a website and we set up https://www.pureairsystems.com.  The name has not changed in 26 years but the website has gone through a number of changes since its birth on the internet.

The first website looked more like what we call a landing page today. It was one page with photos that were not very good and some basic information on the products and our phone number and email address.

Two years later we created a more in-depth website that gave more information and better descriptions of our line of HEPA and Carbon based air filtration systems. That site had the Pure Air University section which was designed to provide objective information on all types of air filtration devices. This allowed potential customers to gain some knowledge about all the competitive types of air filters so they could make a more objective decision on selecting a system that would work best for their specific problem.

The new site has a great new look and is much  easier to navigate. Pure Air Systems only makes commercial grade air filtration systems which are used for both commercial and residential applications. This was not well understood with the previous website.

Pure Air Systems has been around since 1985 and is one of the most successful air filtration companies in North America for supplying commercial grade, high performance, fan powered HEPA based air filtration systems for the residential, commercial, institutional, medical and industrial markets.

Getting The Lead Out

In the industrial market there are a number of companies that produce batteries that contain components manufactured from lead. While the technology of producing batteries is changing rapidly there are still many operations that use lead.

Lead is still widely used for car batteries, pigments, ammunition, cable sheathing, weights for lifting, weight belts for diving, lead crystal glass, radiation protection and in some solders. It is often used to store corrosive liquids.

To produce the lead or when shaping or casting the lead, the particulates that are emitted are extremely dangerous when ingested into the body either through contact with the skin or inhaled.

Plants that make or use lead have their employees wear special clothing and wear respirators whenever they are in areas of lead production. These precautions are necessary as lead dust is very fine and will find its way to any part of the building or structure.

Pure Air Systems, a manufacturer of commercial grade HEPA filtration systems since 1985, has installed many of their 2000HS Plus units in plants where lead is made or utilized in production. In many cases the fan powered HEPA units are located in employee changing rooms or offices within the manufacturing complex.

These filters remove 99.99% of all particles .3 microns and larger and the use of variable speed drive motors allows for finite control of air volume from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM in one percent increments. This provides the correct movement of air for the application.

For example, when the changing rooms or offices are unoccupied the units can run at 30% of volume. When the employees are in the rooms changing out of their protective garments the fans will run up to 100% of volume so that any dust that is thrown into the air during changing is quickly removed.

Air Filtration 33 Years Later

Pure Air Systems has been in the Air Filtration business since 1985 and has successfully kept its position in the HEPA based air filtration market by continuing to make advancements in its product line.

Since its’ beginning, Pure Air Systems has pushed the envelope in bringing HEPA based air filtration technology to the residential and commercial markets. It was the first company to develop the partial by-pass concept allow us to attach very large, fan-powered true HEPA systems to any forced air ducted heating/cooling systems.

In the later part of the 1990’s we were one of the first companies to use the new variable speed drive, ECM motors from GE. These motors were digitally controlled and they were rated 120/240 v 50/6h0Hz. So we could sell our filtration systems anywhere in the world. This opened up a whole new market for Pure Air Systems.

In 2001 we began working on the HPS portable HEPA unit. This small HEPA system used a four-speed EBM combination blower/motor and had a 12″ square housing that was 21″ long. It was designed for Laboratory applications as well as small rooms and offices. This was the first portable to use a scanned HEPA filter rated at 99.99% at 0.3 microns. It also included a carbon media filter like all of our other systems utilized.

The addition of the ECM motors also allowed us to develop some digital speed controllers that would give our customers the ability to use the systems in a stand-alone configuration and control fan speed from 1% to 100% in 1% increments. This opened up the door for applications where customers wanted to control the air flow for positive and negative room conditioning or where the application required a specific volume for proper ventilation or contaminant capture.

Pure Air Systems continues to use all metal housings for their Air Filtration systems and these powder-coated housings are designed to last up to 20 years and longer. We still have systems in the field that have been running since the late 1980’s.

Positive About Negative Pressure

The word negative is always associated with something bad or the lack of something good. It is the opposite of the word positive.

In the world of minimizing contact with harmful airborne contaminants the word negative is often used in conjunction with negative air pressure, or making a specific room or area negative.

Hospitals have rooms where they isolate a patient that has a highly communicable disease where the air in the room is constantly being filtered through a HEPA based air filtration system and air handler. The pressure in the room is slightly lower than the air outside the room so when the door to the room is opened all the air moves into the room thus keeping any airborne pathogens from escaping the room.

Negative pressure rooms are common at the CDC in Atlanta and in R&D labs around the world where highly toxic or corrosive chemicals and materials are used for product development. These rooms use both HEPA and Carbon or other adsorptive materials to remove airborne particulate as well as gaseous pollutants.

Pure Air Systems, based in Indianapolis, Indiana manufactures high end, commercial grade HEPA and Carbon based, fan-powered air filtration systems which are used in many of these negative room applications. Their systems can move from 50 CFM up to 2,000 CFM of air through the scanned HEPA filters where in many cases the units themselves are the only air moving device creating the negative pressure.

These systems can also be attached to or be part of the air handling units working in conjunction with cooling and heating systems.

In many instances homes can be under negative pressure when the HVAC system is not properly balanced making the home slightly negative which in this case is bad. That means every time the air handler fan comes on the house tends to draw some air in from the outside which means you are bringing in warm, moist or cold air all the time. Getting your HVAC systems balanced is recommended.

Pure Air Systems Website Update

In 1995 Pure Air Systems purchased its existing URL. At that time there were few companies with a URL and most people had little knowledge of this digital process and even less of an understanding of what to do with the URL. Back in that era there were few websites and only Windows as a major operating system. IOS was still in its infancy.

By 1996 the internet was beginning to show some power in providing real information to a growing computer savvy public. By 1997 about 10% of all new customers for PAS were linked to our very new website that had a few photos and some text.

By 2000 almost 63% of our business was derived from customers viewing our website. We started to ask for their feedback on the information we provided in the site and made those changes accordingly. Over the years we added more products to the website then in 2007 we made a major change to the entire site.

Now, 2018, we are making another major change to the site. This will incorporate more photos and graphics with more bullet points and easy to understand information on how the filtration systems work and their applications including our Pure Air University section that provided a wealth of information on everything “air filtration.”

The website re-design should be in place sometime in May, 2018. The site is being modified by a very experienced team that has created some of the more impressive sites on the internet.

One of the main issues that will be addressed with the new website is the fact that Pure Air Systems only makes one grade of air filtration device. And that is commercial grade. There is no residential grade systems so everyone who buys one of our systems gets the same units we sell to the commercial world.

Pure Air Systems Made In The USA

There is a long history of issues with much of manufacturing moving out of the US. For the most part a lot of the reasons were high  labor costs and corporate greed. In many cases the Asian markets had developed more companies that did injection molding and machining processes that were considerably less expensive with the ability to change product parts almost over night.

For many items imported into the US there will be little change of manufacturing venue. Technology has afforded countries around the world to make products faster and cheaper than the US. Even countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand are now major exporters to the U.S. And, many of the companies that own these operations are U.S. corporations.

Pure Air Systems has been making HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems in the US since 1985. Everyone of these systems has a made in the USA label on it and all the components are also made in the USA. Knowing that one would think that customers would not consider purchasing any other filtration systems. But that is and was not the case. The PAS line of high end, commercial grade filtration systems is more expensive than the closest competitor but the units are designed to run for 15 to 20 years and they perform exactly as promised. Most of the competitors use cheaper, off shore components and are not made of steel or use the high end ECM variable speed drive motors.

After 32 years PAS has proven that if you make a great product, consistently and deliver what you promise, people and companies will continue to come back and order more. PAS now offers a line of 7 different HEPA systems ranging from the small portable HPS series to our 2000HS Plus units that can move up to 2000 CFM of HEPA filtered air.
