Air Filtration

For those people who live and work in colder climates, the amount of time you spend indoors is proportionally more than those individuals who live in warmer climates. In addition colder air is much drier than warm moist air and as a result dust particles and other airborne contaminants tend to stay suspended in air for much longer periods of time.

As humans we inhale large quantities of air every time we take a breath. All of that air is filtered through our mucus membranes and lung linings and a large portion of the particulate are ( those particles larger than 20 microns ) air filtered out and most often projected out of the body when exhaling.

The smaller particles, those under 20 microns and especially those sub-micron particles, are trapped in the lung linings and not exhaled. They are absorbed by the body and then flushed out of the body. However, some of those particulate may be harmful to the body and these may be airborne viruses or bacteria or perhaps some other type of airborne contaminant. Collecting these particulate is what Pure Air Systems does with their HEPA based air filtration systems.

Started in 1985, Pure Air Systems created a line of Air Filters that specifically used true, commercial grade, scanned HEPA filters in all their systems. HEPA filters are the most effective mechanical device for removing 99.99% of all particles 0.3 microns or lager and approaching 99.98% at particles as small as 0.12 microns in size.

These HEPA systems are all fan powered and use the newer ECM variable speed drive motors so they can be used on 120/240 volt 50/60Hz electrical systems and used any where in the world.

The systems range in capacity from 50 CFM ( Cubic Foot Per Minute) up to 2,000 CFM. They can be used either attached to an existing ducted HVAC system in the by-pass configuration or as stand-alone units. These Air Filtration systems can be used in residential, commercial, institutional, medical and industrial applications.

Air Apparent

Pure Air Systems is now 32 years old and is one of the remaining few companies in North America that still makes high end, commercial grade, fan powered HEPA air filtration systems. These systems are designed to provide true HEPA filtered air in a wide variety of applications including but not limited to: commercial, industrial, institutional, medical and residential.

Pure Air Systems makes only one type of HEPA based air filtration system so the residential customer receives the same identical system as the hospital or laboratory. These systems are designed to last a long time and run for years with minimal maintenance other than changing any one of the three filters at regular intervals.

There are a number of models available designed to fit any application and with the ability to be either installed as stand-alone units or being attached to the return air side of any HVAC system; commercial or residential.

Pure Air Systems is now the Air Apparent in this industry as there is only one other company in Europe that makes fan powered HEPA air filtration systems with the ability to handle air flows from less than 50 CFM up to 2000 CFM in a small housing configuration. In addition, the PAS units utilize the newer ECM variable speed drive motors that are rated 120/240 volt 50/6 Hz motors so they can be used anywhere in the world.

Each system has a prefilter, carbon media filter and true HEPA  filter. The systems can be configured to have all Carbon media with one prefilter for applications where only odors and gases are present. Or, they can be configured with two prefilters for applications where high levels of large particulate are present.

Pure Air Systems Moving Into 2018

Our company has been around since 1985 and over the past 32 years we have seen some interesting changes in technology and the way we communicate with each other and the world. It is in the communication department that we see major changes.

PAS first had a URL in 1995. There were few ways to promote  yourself in those days and we thought being part of the Internet would be a great way to promote our products and company. Turns our we were correct.

Today, almost 80% of all our new customer leads come through our website. People can view our equipment and learn more about our products and systems and the applications for all of them and how they can be installed. But we need to go further.

Our current site is now over 6 years old and needs some fine tuning . It is not responsive so it is somewhat difficult to view on a mobile device. And since over 60% of our new views are from phones or tablets we need to change that. Also we will make the site more user friendly and eliminate some of the confusion about the differences between commercial systems and residential systems ( clue…there are none ).

We would also like to add a Chat app and be more progressive in using Facebook and Twitter. These social media platforms have become the best way to connect to everyone anywhere at anytime.

Look for a major face-lift on our site coming in February of 2018. We think you will like it a lot. If you would like more information on the complete line of HEPA based air filtration systems please go to our website at: https://www.pureairsystems.com or call us on our toll-free number at: 800-869-8025.

Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse

By now we all know that the Zombie Apocalypse was created through a virus developed by some unknown group. You also know by watching the documentary, Walking Dead, that the only way to put down a Zombie for good is to shoot or stab them or remove their head. So if you want to be a Zombie killer and not a member of the walking dead, then you need to pay attention to the rest of this blog. It may save your life!

Since we now know that an airborne virus is the method by which we become infected, the the obvious solution is to not breath in any contaminated air. Hard to do when the infected are now everywhere. But there is a solution. HEPA air filtration.

Started in 1985, Pure Air Systems introduced a commercial grade, fan powered HEPA air filtration system for use in homes, hospitals, schools, office buildings and other commercial facilities. Had all of these potential customers heeded our warning and installed one of our 7 different HEPA filtration models we may have to be writing about this issue today.

The HEPA systems handle up to 2,000 cubic feet of air per minute and can provide a surgery suite/clean room environment in any structure, even your home where you can hide comfortably from the Zombies.

HEPA filters are the only filtration method of significantly removing or reducing the levels of airborne contaminants at an efficiency of 99.99% at 0.3 microns and larger. They are even effective down to 0.12 microns and smaller ( virus size ) and become more efficient over time. …You are already thinking you need one aren’t you?

So, making the decision to buy one of our HEPA filtration systems is a “no brainer” if you get my drift.

Monuments

There is a lot of discussion these days about historical monuments and the issue of whether they should remain or be moved or destroyed. No matter which side you choose the fact remains that these were built for a specific purpose in their time. Many are still standing and a number are now gone.

Many corporations started out creating products that were relevant for their time in the development of our country and it’s industrial base. Over time, many of those companies have either changed completely, went out of business or merged with another larger corporation. Time changes everything.

Pure Air Systems started in 1985 by offering its’ first HEPA based, fan powered air filtration system. At the time it was slightly ahead of the curve as this type of high-end filtration system began to set the standards for high-performance in the area of reduction and/or removal of large percentages of harmful, airborne sub-micron particulate.

Over time, Pure Air Systems saw the opportunity to add larger systems with more airflow capabilities to its product line and began to expand its systems into the commercial, institutional, medical and industrial markets. The addition of the new ECM variable speed motors in 1999 added a new dimension to their product line.

The variable speed motors were magnet driven as apposed to the traditional use of wound motors thus giving PAS the ability to use digital controllers which allowed them to control the airflow in 1% increments. In addition, the motors were rated 120/240 v 50/60 Hz so they could be used anywhere in the world. This propelled the PAS line into another level which lead to the addition of 3 more products to their line.

If PAS was a monument it would probably look slightly different today, 32 years later, than the original built in 1985. Everything changes, nothing remains the same. Technology will move forward in spite of our attempts to slow it down. Time changes everything.

Life Insurance

Life Insurance has many advantages especially if your dependents are on the receiving end of the payout. For you, not so much since your demise benefits other people.

Insurance is designed to cover risk. If you don’t believe that life has risks then don’t get insurance. However, your state requires you have insurance to drive and not having insurance on your home takes real guts…and a large bank account.

This leads us into the discussion of how best to insure ones self with minimal costs and maximum benefits. I am talking about insuring your health. Obviously seeing a Doctor on a regular basis and eating healthy and exercise do matter, but breathing good, clean, pollution free air is also very important.

Pure Air Systems started its business in 1985 selling one of the first true, commercial grade HEPA air filtration systems in the U.S. Beginning with one model over time, PAS developed 6 additional systems over the next decade and today, 32 years after it started, is now one of the major players in the world of HEPA air filtration systems.

These units are designed to be used in residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and medical applications. PAS was the first and is still the only company to apply a large, fan powered HEPA system to any forced air ducted HVAC system in the residential market. Customers who have installed these systems have seen dramatic results in reduction and / or removal of airborne contaminants that can cause severe respiratory dysfunctions.

In addition, the use of the PAS HEPA systems has propelled the companies products into markets all over the world. The use of the variable speed ECM motors in all the units allows them to be used in any country as they can operate on 120/240 50/60Hz electrical systems.

Delta P. The reason you have dust in your house.

With a few exceptions, most homes in the U.S. use some form of ducted heating/cooling system with air returns and registers located throughout the rooms in the house. The central air handler moves air from the returns back to the cooling and heating coils and then moves it back  into the house to either heat or cool the indoor environment.

On the return air side of the air handler where all the returns merge at one point is where the air filter is located. The filter is designed to remove all the airborne dust and dirt that is in the air. Only dust particles in the air that are pulled into the return air grills will be filtered. If the dust particles are too heavy to be airborne they will remain at rest on a surface and never reach the filter.

The HVAC unit in your home is a balanced system. It is designed so that there is slightly more air moving than returning. This helps to keep the house in a positive pressure mode which eliminates in-leakage of cold or hot air. The balance also includes the ability of the blower/motor to move the air throughout the duct work as well as through the air filter. The air ducts and filter all have a resistance known as Delta P or pressure drop. The higher the pressure drop or static pressure the more powerful a blower/ motor will be required.

If the air pressure is balanced with a clean air filter, once the air filter starts to load up the resistance or pressure drop across the filter ( Delta P ) will increase. If the Blower/Motor is not properly sized as the Delta P increases the air flow across the air handler decreases. Once this takes place the amount of air and amount of airborne dust that is in the air will be significantly reduced and you end up with the air handler running more often just to keep the house cool or warm and more dust in the environment.

This is one reason why you need to change your air filter at least once every 6 months and more often if you live in an urban area. Cigarette Smoke Removal

I have written over 100 articles and blogs on the subject of removing cigarette smoke and odor from any indoor environment and the resolutions we have today are the same as those proposed 30 years ago.

The best and most effective method of removing smoke from the indoor environment is to eliminate any smoking in indoor environments. It’s just that simple. Removing it using air filtration, air dilution, carbon filters and high volume fans is only a band-aid approach at best.

Once the cigarette smoke sticks to any surface it will re-release that odor for days. It requires a strong solvent based cleaner to remove the brown tar material that is present on the walls of a smoking environment.

Pure Air Systems has been around since 1985 producing high capacity, commercial grade, certified HEPA and Carbon based fan powered air filtration systems for the residential, commercial, institutional, medical and industrial market place. Many of these systems were sold for the exclusive purpose of removing cigarette and cigar smoke from indoor environments.

The degree of effectiveness of the systems was directly proportional to how much smoke we could remove at the source over time. And, the cigarette smoke will clog up a prefilter in two to three weeks and the HEPA filter in less than 3 months. The Carbon media in the units which is designed to remove much of the odor, would last perhaps 4 to 6 weeks at best. In essence, it is very expensive and difficult to remove the cigarette smoke and odor with any degree of effectiveness.

It is for this reason that smoking is prohibited from most buildings, hospitals, schools, airports, planes, trains and ships. Aside from the environmental issues smoking is also extremely harmful to your health.

Air Filtration For Dummies

The device that you or your HVAC contractor changes once or twice a year is designed, primarily, to keep the cooling coils clean. It has very little effect on the removal of airborne particles that maybe harmful to your health.

These general duty air filters are comprised of very open mesh or pleats that allow air to pass through easily but capture larger dust and dirt particles to minimize any deposit of dirt on the cooling coils which could, over time, significantly reduce the efficiency of the coils and also put dirt on the blower wheel.

Dust particles you can see are about 20 microns in size or lager. As a comparison, your hair is about 100 microns in diameter. However, airborne particles that may harm you body when inhaled are usually smaller than 1 or 2 microns in size. The efficiency of the general duty air filter on these sized particles is about 25% at best. Meaning your health is not protected in any way from indoor airborne contaminants with these general duty filters.

Perhaps the best way to get some real basic information on how filtration actually works is to go to the Pure Air Systems website. ..https://www.pureairsystems.com  There you will find a section entitled “Pure Air University.” This is broken down into simple sections detailing how filtration actually works and the reasons why you may want to look beyond the general duty filters if you really want to clean up your environment.

PAS produces high end HEPA based, fan powered, air filtration systems and has since 1985.  32 years of experience in working with all types of airborne contaminant applications allows them to share their experience and knowledge of this process with anyone who cares to go to their website.

Climate Change Particulate Effect

Climate change is more than warming of the earth or oceans at an unprecedented rate, it is the change in atmospheric conditions that alter the environment in every way. In places where the usual amount of rain has been dramatically reduced, the levels of airborne dust particles is increasing. Walking on or driving on packed soil creates tiny sub-micron particles to be released into the air at a faster rate as there is less moisture to keep the soil intact upon impact.

These airborne particulate consist of both organic and inorganic materials some of which can be harmful when inhaled in small quantities over a long period of time. While our lungs can usually handle particles that are 10 microns or larger, the smaller particles tend to get trapped in the lung linings and mucus membranes and are slow to be released.

In 1985 Pure Air Systems was formed to produce and sell HEPA based air filtration systems for the residential market. In the past 30 years, PAS has grown from one system to seven and now provides true, commercial grade, HEPA systems to the commercial, institutional, industrial, medical and residential markets and sells its’ systems all over the world.

While homes and buildings have developed a much better process to keep them close to air tight, the higher levels of sub-micron particulate are still present in the buildings. More importantly, these particulate are at very high concentrations when the air is stagnant or on hot, dry days. The PAS HEPA systems have proven themselves to be  extremely effective at removing 99.99% of all particles 0.3 microns or larger and close to 99% of smaller particles.

Extreme weather produces extreme environmental conditions and it is important to understand the relationship especially if you live out west in the dryer climates.
