Chevrolet Nova – A Car After It’s Time

The Chevy Nova was made in the early 60’s through part of the 70’s and was somewhat popular as a mid sized, low cost vehicle. This car also had many mechanical issues and was dropped from the line up only to be resurrected as the Chevy Citation in the 80’s. Different design, same issues. When the Japanese entered the US car market they were surprised that General Motors ad chosen the name Nova because in Japanese this word means NO GO. This should have been a warning to GM not to use that name.

When Pure Air Systems came out with their HEPA filtration systems in 1985, the units were considered too expensive and the existing furnace type media filters were considered the best filters on the market. Ozone generators and Ion Generators were also sold as high efficiency air filter systems and were much less expensive than the HEPA units. However, like the Nova, these general duty air filtration filters and mechanical systems did not work as promised and are still sold today to unsuspecting consumers.

The fan powered, commercial grade HEPA filtration systems by PAS are considered some of the best overall HEPA systems on the market. And, Pure Air Systems, Inc. is one of only 3 companies in the world that make this type of HEPA system with a wide range of sizes and housing configurations. The PAS line offers systems that range from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM using new ECM variable speed drive motors.

The phrase ” Buy American” should be more than a slobetgan.

No matter who you talk to today, many of the older people are saying we should only buy American made products. That, today, is easier said than done. First, many individuals that order on line ( and that is the majority of people) buy products that meet their needs at the best price and seldom search for its origin of manufacture.

Pure Air Systems, Inc. has been manufacturing its fan powered, commercial grade HEPA based air filtration systems in the US from all US made components since 1985. Today almost 95% of all the components used in the manufacture of our HEPA Shield systems are made here in the U.S. And, since its inception in 1985, PAS has always put Made in the USA stickers on our filter cabinets.

Customers that are familiar with our systems are happy to pay the higher cost for the systems knowing that the quality of our systems will provide them with great air filtration for 15 to 20 years of service, with reasonable filter changes. and minimal maintenance, Over the years many of our customers purchased less expensive, made over seas products, but eventually came back to PAS because our systems perform so much better than 95% of our competition. In fact, Pure Air Systems, Inc, is now one of only 3 companies in the word that produce this type of HEPA based air filtration system.

Filtration For Your 3D Printer

With over 13 years of experience in using FDM and FFF 3D style printers one learns quickly the various quirks in the operation of these printers. While they have improved dramatically since the 2011-2012 introduction of desk top printers, there are still some challenges when printing with various filament types. To be specific, ABS ( Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene ) has been one of the more popular materials with which to print. However, this material off-gasses when printing at 245 Degrees C and above and the odor can be quite significant. In addition, the gases produced along with some of the fine particles released during printing can become a health concern if not properly vented or isolated when printing occurs.

One of the other issues when printing with ABS is the layer separation that can take place if the object being printed cools to rapidly during the printing process. To minimize this issue you need to enclose the printer and keep the cold air drafts from falling on the printer bed. This enclosure can also also double as a mechanism to reduce the entry of the odors and particulate into the room. The use of a fan powered exhaust system attached to a vent in the enclosure along with a carbon media and HEPA filter will allow for continued use of the printer inside any room or enclosed area without compromising the environmental integrity of the room.

Pure Air Systems has been making fan powered HEPA and Carbon medial filters since 1985. These systems are designed to move from 50 CFM up to 2000 CFM with the ability to control the air volume in 1% increments. These metal framed units come in seven different configurations with the addition of a portable unit that is a prefect fit for the enclosures that would be placed over the 3D printers. Pure Air Systems – Real Content – Not Social Media

I must say that I am getting tired of all these Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. sites that tell me things like: “If you look outside and see that liquid falling from the sky….that is rain. And let me tell you why it falls the way it does.”  Really,? Have we arrived at point in our lives that we can only verify what we saw because someone else used social media and told us it was real?

These are some of the reasons why companies and individuals who actually have valuable and reliable content on their websites and blogs dislike social media. They now have to shift to the “Bizzaro World” approach to get anyone to pay attention. If you are looking for real content then take a look at the Pure Air Systems website. A company that is now 36 years old and one of only three companies left in the world that make this type of fan powered, commercial grade, HEPA filtration system.

In early days of PAS, a lot of content was written for the site that provided easy to understand technical information about all types of air filtration systems, including those sold by competitors. This part of the site was titled:  Pure Air University. It is still a viable section of the website and often used by those searching for real, technical, information written in a format that is easily understood by the laymen. This data forms the basis by which all types and styles of filters are rated and is still one of the most widely read of all the data on the site.

Pure Air Systems Shares Rarified Air

Created in 1985 by Don Musilli, Pure Air Systems was one of many companies offering air filtration systems for the commercial and residential markets. But the separation from the competition began shortly thereafter. From the beginning, PAS used an all metal housings, Lau Blowers, GE Motors and commercial grade prefiters, carbon media and HEPA filters. The initial units sold for $695.00. Over time, PAS added other units to their line up and in 1998 became one of the first powered fan filter companies to use the new GE ECM variable speed drive motors.

The addition of the new motors and expansion to a 9,000 sq. ft. building allowed PAS to expand their product line to 7 different size air filtration systems all of them now using the upgraded, digitally controlled variable speed drive motors. The ability for the motors to be 120/240 50/60 Hz created a new market overseas for the larger systems. The new HPS portable unit opened the doors to more medical markets and the Covid – 19 global pandemic created a whole new market for commercial grade HEPA air filtration systems.

Today, there are only two other companies in the world that make a fan powered, commercial grade HEPA air filtration unit handling up to 2,000 CFM and as low as 50 CFM. With material costs for metal and other components increasing rapidly, it is much more difficult for companies to offer products such as the ones from Pure Air Systems.

Using Air Filtration System As An Air Curtain

Air curtains are designed to be placed above a large door or opening to create an “air barrier” so to speak, that will keep the air from one side of the curtain from entering the other side of the curtain. This is accomplihed using a high volume industrial blower and fan with a fairly powerful motor. Usually 1/2 HP to 1HP. The air is produced by the fan and forced through manifold that is placed along the top edge of the door and extends the entire width of the door. The opening of the flow side of the manifold is very small in comparison to the air entry side of the blower. This design create a venturi affect that jets air downward at a very high velocity.

Pure Air Systems has a series of fan-powered HEPA based air filtration systems that can be used as the main source of fan power for an air curtain while also maintaining a contaminant free air door. These HEPA air curtains are often used in food processing, medical product manufacturing, laboratories and medical facilities. The main advantage is the speed of entering or exiting a room without having to open or close a door. This is a real advangtage when the door opening is very wide and would require either double doors or a horizontal sliding door. In addition, you could have more than one person moving throught the opening at one time.

Pure Air Systems has been manufacturing HEPA and Carbon based air filtration systems that are fan-powered and with all metal housings since 1985. These units range in air flow volume from a low of 50 CFM to 2,000 CFM. The PAS units come standard with a true, scanned HEPA filter, Carbon Filter and Prefilter. All components are made in the USA. HEPA Filtration For Asthmatics

Asthmatics suffer from airborne allergens more often than people with just normal allergies to pollen, ragweed, animal dander, etc. For many asthmatics a small level of dust or airborne particulate can trigger an asthma attack and the only relief comes in the form of an inhaler or other quick acting medication.

Allergy sufferers can take a number of over the counter medications to help relieve symptoms especially the runny nose, irritated eyes and general stuffed head feeling that are very typical. Being in an environment where they amount of allergens can be reduced will significantly help reduce or eliminate the typical reactions associated with allergy sufferers.

Pure Air Systems has been making HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems since 1985. For over 39 years people around the U.S and overseas have been able to use these high performance air filtration systems from general duty air particulate removal to surgical suite operations and everything in between.  The ability to use these systems with standard forced air ducted heating/cooling systems has enabled thousands of allergy sufferers to have almost complete relief when they are in their homes or offices. The HEPA filters are commercial grade and certified at 99.99% at 0.3 microns and larger. The three stage filtration system also includes a dual layer ring panel filter and carbon media filter for odors and gases.

For asthmatics, the PAS line of HEPA systems has proved to be one of the few HEPA based air filtration systems that can both  reduce the levels of airborne particulate while also pressurizing an entire house, office area or large room. This highly effective system has shown to significantly reduce the need for or use of inhalers for the area being actively filtered. Pure Air Systems also makes portable units that can handle an individual room or small area. These are perfect for a child’s or adult’s bedroom or small house or condo.

Air Filters For Residential HVAC Systems

In today’s fast paced society we often don’t think about common products or processes. We assume that anything we buy or use will operate as indicated and that we should be able to utilize the product with a minimum of effort and retraining. Our home heating/cooling system fits into that category. We turn on the heating or cooling cycle from our thermostat and expect the temperature in the home to match the temperature setting. We do this without much thought.

When the heating or cooling doesn’t cool or heat adequately we automatically contact our local HVAC contractor rather than even attempt to diagnose the problem by ourselves. While the problem maybe a major malfunction of a component, often times the reason for the lack of cooling or heat is a plugged air filter.

The blower/motor assembly on your HVAC system is rated at a certain motor horsepower and air flow, as measured in CFM. These are matched systems for the cooling coil and heating system based upon the size of the home. This includes the static pressure the fan sees to pull and push the air throughout the duct system. If the filter is plugged it will take more energy to pull the air through the filter and since the motor/blower assembly is designed to handle a limited amount of static pressure for the CFM it moves.

If the static pressure capability for the blower/motor is 1.5 ” at rated CFM capacity and the plugged filter adds another .5 to 1.0″ of static load ( which it can do ) it will significantly reduce the air flow through the system as much as 50%. That means it takes much longer to heat or cool your home and it also puts a strain on your system in total. And, it will significantly reduce the ability to remove humidity from the home. Checking the condition of your air filter on a regular basis should be part of your routine.

Pure Air Systems makes a complete line of fan powered HEPA based air filtration systems. We can help you choose the right filter or filtration system for your home to ensure you always have your HVAC system working at its full capacity and that the air in your home is always well filtered.

Air Filtration For 3D Printing

The use of 3D Printers has grown 1000 % over the past few years. Many schools, businesses, entrepreneurs, hobbyists and individuals now own a 3D Printer. The majority of the printers used in the schools and homes are the smaller FFF or FDM filament style printers that print with various types of plastic or composites. These printers can print over 30 different materials and their tool head nozzles can reach temperatures at or above 300 degrees celsius ( 580 F ). When melting these materials during the printing operation, small amounts of sub-micron particulate are produced which depending upon the materials used for printing may create some health issues when inhaled by the user. Air filtration for 3D printing is now becoming a major concern.

Pure Air Systems, an Indiana based company, has been making HEPA based air filtration systems since 1985. Their fan powered units range in volume from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM and their systems all use commercial grade HEPA’s, variable speed drive motors, industrial fans and all metal housings. In the past year a number of the PAS Portable units ( 250 CFM ) and the 600HS ( 600 CFM ) units have been used to filter the air from one or more filament style printers to remove the less than 20 micron sized particles from the air. HEPA filters used in the PAS units are certified at 99.99% at 0.3 microns. Much of the particulate generated by the printers is in the 1 to 10 micron range which can be inhaled and trapped in the lungs. Over time this could create some significant lung problems and severe side affects. More studies are being done all the time to determine the cause and affect.

In many cases the Pure Air Systems units are attached to special enclosures that are used to cover the printers and confine the particulate to one area. One of the better 3D Printer Enclosures is made by LiteWorld LLC., http://www.liteworldllc.com . The PAS units are very powerful allowing one of them to be used to filter the air for multiple printers.

How To Identify True HEPA Filters

The term HEPA means High Performance Particulate Absolute or Air. This type of filter is used in many applications where the reduction and/or removal of fine, sub-micron airborne particles is required at a much higher efficiency than standard media filters like the ones used in air handling systems or HVAC systems. In order to qualify as a true, certified HEPA filter it must pass be able to have a rating equivalent to a MERV 17 or higher. This means the filter can capture 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns or larger. Compare this to a MERV 5 or 6 filter which has an efficiency of less than 20% on particles larger than 10 microns in size.

A true HEPA filter is normally a pleated media filter with large pleats with separators or a mini-pleat with glue type separators and is enclosed in a metal housing.and is sealed with an industrial sealant. The metal housing has a gasket on one end of the housing which is normally placed on knife edge seal to eliminate any air bypassing the HEPA filter. The HEPA paper or filter media is fairly fragile and it also enclosed in a housing to protect the HEPA.

Because HEPA filter paper is very dense, the ability to pull air through the HEPA requires a larger motor/blower assembly as the pressure drop or resistance as measured in inches of water is much higher than the resistance through a standard throw-away furnace filter.Usually HEPA filters are mated with a blower/motor that is designed for this type of media, or they are enclosed is a housing like the ones Pure Air Systems makes that are stand-alone units with their own blower/motor and prefilters.

Pure Air Systems, located in Indianapolis, Indiana is one of a few companies in the U.S. that makes a high performance, certified HEPA, fan powered air filtration system that can be use in the residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and medical markets. These systems are designed to either be attached to any HVAC system in a partial by-pass configuration or as stand-alone units. They range in air flow from 50 CFM to 2,000 CFM.
