How To Do Factual Research

In a time when social media dominates the world of news, content and data, it is more important than ever to use other sources of information as well. Often, individuals will look to a certain media type, group or organization to obtain information on a product, process, person or location. For the most part, this information source is typically skewed toward feeding incorrect information or biased information for self-serving issues.

It is amazing how few people actually go directly to the companies website or information pages to gather data. While companies do tend to hype their own products or processes, for the most part the information is usually very accurate.

Pure Air Systems manufactures a complete line of fan-powered, commercial grade, HEPA based air filtration systems for both the commercial and residential markets. PAS is now 37 years old and is one of only three companies in the world that makes this type of high end filtration system. And, almost all of the components are made right here in the US.

In order to provide factual information about their systems, PAS inserted a large number of pages dedicated to providing information on the operational capabilities and effectiveness of all types of air filtration and purification systems currently available on the market. This is called. Pure Air University, and it is a really good primer on explaining in plain English, how mechanical and non-mechanical air filtration and gaseous pollutants are effectively removed or reduced.

It is interesting how many people will rely on alternate sources of information that are completely counter to the factual data provided by the information on Pure Air University. This is one of many reasons why companies struggle against the social media tide that washes over their factual data.

Closing In On Airborne Mold

Mold is a common growth material that is normally found in damp environments or where there is little light or heat and there is the presence of water. When the mold spores the spores become airborne and for many individuals this organic material can cause severe reactions and respiratory dysfunctions.

Mold spores are relatively large so they are easily captured by high end filtration systems such as HEPA filters or Merv rated filters of 17 or higher. These filters are much denser and can capture a very high percentage of the airborne mold spores. It is, however, important to know that you need to keep the HVAC fan running continuously if you want to pull the airborne spores back through the return air grills to the air filters.

Pure Air Systems has been making commercial based HEPA air filtration systems that are fan powered and include prefilters and carbon media. These systems are made from mild steel and are powder coated for use in all types of environments. These units range in capacity from 50 CFM for the portables up to 2,000 CFM for the larger systems. All of these units utilize variable speed drive motors and can be controlled digitally.

The PAS systems are used in the institutional, medical, industrial and residential markets to handle a wide range of airborne contaminants and are considered some of the best air filtration systems on the planet.

Air Filtration 101

The use of air filters for removing airborne particulates has been around for over 100 years. Today’s filtration technology is eons ahead of just using cheese cloth to filter our particles for fan powered device. The newer, blended filtration medias are much better at capturing small, sub-micron particles with higher capture rates and lower pressure drops over time.

Air filters range in efficiency from general duty, like furnace filters, to high capacity, high efficiency, like HEPA filters. For most home applications the general duty filters are used as they both help keep the cooling coils in the HVAC system clean as well as minimize the dust in your home.

The higher efficiency filters, like HEPA, are used mostly in commercial applications like hospitals, clinics, surgery suites, chip manufacturing, clean rooms, laboratories and more. There are also HEPA based systems available for the residential market that utilize their own fan/motor system to augment the blower/motor assembly in the HVAC unit. HEPA filters have a much higher resistance to air flow but can capture particles as small as a virus.

It should be noted, that the use of non-mechanical filtration devices such as ozone generators or electronic air cleaners are not really that effective at removing particles from the air. Ozone generators are really more effective on the reduction of airborne gaseous contaminants and electronic air cleaners need constant cleaning to make them work.

Pure Air Systems. Making A Name For Itself

Innovation is a word that is often over used in today’s market place. Some new ideas or concepts are just an alteration to an already existing product that is being labeled “innovation.”

In I985, Pure Air Systems was formed and it introduced some new concepts in fan powered, HEPA air filtration systems for both the residential and commercial markets. With an All-American made system, Pure Air Systems ventured into the air filtration market with a commercial grade, high performance, true HEPA filtration system that could be used in a wide number of applications, both residential and commercial. Initially, the PAS line of filtration units was limited to one model, and it incorporated the standard GE Induction motors and no bells and whistles.

By the 1990’s PAS had developed 5 additional models varying from the new HPS Portable line to the very large 2000 CFM 2000HS Plus unit. These new units were now using the new variable speed drive, ECM type motors that were rated, 120/240 Volt, 50/60Hz. This provided systems that could be used anywhere in the world. In addition, the new motors could be used with digital variable speed controllers offering customers the ability to adjust air flow and power performance to meet any performance specifications.

Today, Pure Air Systems is one of only 3 companies in the world that produce this type of commercial grade, high performance HEPA based air filtration system.

Pure Air Systems. American Made.

Founded in 1985, Pure Air Systems was one of the first companies to introduce true, commercial grade, fan powered HEPA air filtration systems. The first unit, model 600H, was the base model using a standard 120 volt, 60Hz GE motor, Lau blowers, scanned HEPA filters, carbon media packs and ring panel pre-filters and switches and wire harnesses. All American made.

Today, Pure Air Systems has 5 different models ranging from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM using the same metal housings, HEPA filters, carbon media packs but with the new variable speed 120/240 volt 50/60HZ motors, digital controllers and pressure gauges. Again, all of these components are currently being made in the USA. In addition, PAS is now one of only three companies in the world that manufacture these commercial grade HEPA air filtration systems.

Making products using US made components in today’s world creates some unusual issues. With most companies using components made in China or other overseas countries, competing with US made components is becoming more difficult. However, the Pure Air Systems units historically have a 15 to 20 year life cycle even in heavy duty operations. The cost may be higher but the performance is unmatched when comparing to similar products made in China.

Cigarette Smoke – Easy to See – Hard to Remove

Smoke from cigarettes and cigars is highly visible and has a distinct odor. It is pungent and will stick to any surface and re-release the odor for a long time. It will cling to clothing and stain hard surfaces over time. Of all the airborne contaminants we generate, cigarette smoke is the most difficult to remove from the air.

Smoke from cigarettes and cigars has both a particulate component and an odor component. Both difficult to capture using filtration systems. The odor can only be removed using carbon based media and the cigarette smoke will even plug up a HEPA filter over time.

The use of ozone generators or UV lights also do very little to alleviate this situation indoors and it is now  the reason smoking is prohibited in almost all indoor facilities, restaurants and eating establishments. It is just too difficult to mitigate with almost any filtration technology.

Pure Air Systems has been making high end, HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems since 1985 and one of only three companies in the world that make systems for both the commercial and residential markets. The systems range in capacity from 50 DFM to 2000 CFM and can include a prefilter, scanned HEPA filter and carbon media. The systems now all use variable speed drive motors and are digitally controlled. The units are also capable of being used in 120/240 50/60hz applications.

Summer Months and Home Indoor Air Quality

For the majority of the U.S., Summer represents hot days, hot nights and in many parts of the U.S., high humidity. This means that for the most part people will remain indoors in their homes, offices and shopping areas in the presence of cool, air conditioning.

While air conditioning keeps the interior space cool and removes the majority of the humidity, the lack of any outside fresh air means that all the air in the home, office, school or shopping areas is stagnant or stale. Without any type of effective air filtration, the levels of airborne particles (which can include, human skin, bug matter, airborne dust and debris of all types) will increase 10 fold. And, if there are animals present, then the potential for high concentrations of animal dander may occur.

In order to minimize the health hazards of breathing stale, polluted indoor air for long periods of time, we recommend using good air filters on your returns or consider putting one of our 600HS Plus HEPA systems on your ducted forced air HFAC system. With the unique partial-bypass installation concept it is possible to filter all the air in your house up to 24 times per day and introduce a small amount of outside, filtered fresh air without upsetting the AC temperature and humidity in your home.

Chevrolet Nova – A Car After It’s Time

The Chevy Nova was made in the early 60’s through part of the 70’s and was somewhat popular as a mid sized, low cost vehicle. This car also had many mechanical issues and was dropped from the line up only to be resurrected as the Chevy Citation in the 80’s. Different design, same issues. When the Japanese entered the US car market they were surprised that General Motors ad chosen the name Nova because in Japanese this word means NO GO. This should have been a warning to GM not to use that name.

When Pure Air Systems came out with their HEPA filtration systems in 1985, the units were considered too expensive and the existing furnace type media filters were considered the best filters on the market. Ozone generators and Ion Generators were also sold as high efficiency air filter systems and were much less expensive than the HEPA units. However, like the Nova, these general duty air filtration filters and mechanical systems did not work as promised and are still sold today to unsuspecting consumers.

The fan powered, commercial grade HEPA filtration systems by PAS are considered some of the best overall HEPA systems on the market. And, Pure Air Systems, Inc. is one of only 3 companies in the world that make this type of HEPA system with a wide range of sizes and housing configurations. The PAS line offers systems that range from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM using new ECM variable speed drive motors.

House of The Rising Sun

There are some songs that seem to transcend time and this one by Eric Burton and the Animals is not exception. For almost anyone alive today hearing the first 5 cords of this song instantly remind you of what comes next. There are products and companies that also fall into this category.

Pure Air Systems, Inc. Founded in 1985, is one of those companies. PAS was one of the first companies in North America to offer true HEPA based, fan powered, air filtration systems for both residential and commercial applications. The model 600HS was the first HEPA system that was designed to attach to any forced air, ducted HVAC system using the partial by-pass concept. This allowed the use of the 600, 1200 and 2000HS series units to used in any application for any size HVAC unit with the added ability to introduced fresh, filtered outside air in small quantities to help pressurize any environment.

Today, Pure Air Systems is one of only 3 companies in the world that produce this type of commercial grade HEPA air filtration system. These units also use the variable speed drive motors and can be programmed to adjust the speed ( air flow in CFM ) to suit the application.

Time To Consider Whole House Air Filtration

For most home owners, having an air filter in the main return air duct next to the HVAC fan system or separate filters in the numerous return air outlets in the rooms of the house, constitute whole house air filtration. 99% of these filters are general duty filters that are capable of removing very large airborne particles and not adding any static pressure load to the HVAC fans. The compromise here is that you are trading air flow for not so good air filtration.

In 1985, Pure Air Systems introduced a new HEPA based, fan powered air filtration system that would provide a much higher level of removing much smaller airborne particulate including bateria and some viruses. By using a concept called, partial by-pass system, PAS can attach their HEPA units to the return air side of the HVAC ducting system and because the PAS systems have their own fan, they will not impede the performance of the main HVAC blower/motor assembly.  In addition, the PAS units also incorporate a prefilter and carbon media filter for removal of odors and gaseous pollutants.

Since the inception of the partial by-pass concept, PAS has sold thousands of these units to home owners across North America and has even placed some on board ships and in the hospitality industry. This concept is easy to install and can be retrofitted on existing, ducted HVAC systems in any application.
