Commercial HEPA Air Filtration Systems

Started in 1985, Pure Air Systems has been making commercial grade, fan-powered, true HEPA air filtration systems for over 38 years. The same high quality metal fabricated housings used then are still used today. High quality ECM motors and metal framed HEPA filters along with carbon media and ring panel prefilters are all part of the various systems offered by Pure Air Systems.

PAS makes units a number of systems ranging in air flow from 50 CFM up to 2000 CFM. These units are configured so they can be mounted either as stand-alone units or as part of an existing, ducted HVAC system. The powder coated painted 16 gauge steel housings can be mounted in side or outdoors depending upon the application.

The ECM motors provide for variable speed control using digital controllers or run by a computer system. In addition, they can be used in a a120 volt 60Hz electrical system or 240 volt 50 Hz system. This means they can be use in any location around the world.

HEPA filters are the best method of removing over 99.9995% of all particles 0.3 microns in size and larger and approach 99.99% for particles as small as 0.12 microns. They are used in all hospital and medical facilities and in commercial, military and residential markets.

US Designed – US Made – Pure Air Systems

Almost 80% of the products purchased on-line from Amazon, Walmart, Ebay and other web based stores, are manufactured in other countries. The majority being made in China. However, many of these products, including Apple iphones, etc, say they are designed in the US but made overseas.

Pure Air Systems has been designing and manufacturing their fan powered, commercial grade, HEPA air filtration systems since 1985. While some of the motors are now made overseas, over 90% of the components that make up the filtration system are made in the USA. These units have shown to be some of the best on the market and many of these systems are still in operation after over 20 years of service.

It is more expensive to purchase components and parts made in the USA and often times a wider selection of component and part types are available from outside the US. Manufacturing is a very challenging process and requires a lot of up front capital to obtain the machinery and skilled labor to make almost anything.

Pure Air Systems continues to look to the US companies to make any new components or parts that are needed for the existing and newly designed units. While these may be more expensive it is important to continue to use parts made in the US to keep these manufacturing operations viable.

Air Filtration 101

The use of air filters for removing airborne particulates has been around for over 100 years. Today’s filtration technology is eons ahead of just using cheese cloth to filter our particles for fan powered device. The newer, blended filtration medias are much better at capturing small, sub-micron particles with higher capture rates and lower pressure drops over time.

Air filters range in efficiency from general duty, like furnace filters, to high capacity, high efficiency, like HEPA filters. For most home applications the general duty filters are used as they both help keep the cooling coils in the HVAC system clean as well as minimize the dust in your home.

The higher efficiency filters, like HEPA, are used mostly in commercial applications like hospitals, clinics, surgery suites, chip manufacturing, clean rooms, laboratories and more. There are also HEPA based systems available for the residential market that utilize their own fan/motor system to augment the blower/motor assembly in the HVAC unit. HEPA filters have a much higher resistance to air flow but can capture particles as small as a virus.

It should be noted, that the use of non-mechanical filtration devices such as ozone generators or electronic air cleaners are not really that effective at removing particles from the air. Ozone generators are really more effective on the reduction of airborne gaseous contaminants and electronic air cleaners need constant cleaning to make them work.

The Best HEPA Filtration System Line-Up In The Market Today

Founded in 1985, Pure Air Systems offers one of the most complete line-up of HEPA air filtration systems anywhere. In fact, there are now only three companies in the world, including Pure Air Systems, that offer fan-powered, high-performance true HEPA filtration systems in the world.

PAS currently uses variable speed drive motors in all of its filtration systems and that now includes the HPS series portable units. Unlike the older style induction motors, the variable speed drive motors can be programmed to run at any speed and are capable of ramping up if the pressure drop across the HEPA filters increases. This allows for a constant flow of air ( measured in CFM ) through the filtration systems over the life of the HEPA filter.

The all-metal housing units also include a prefilter and carbon filter along with the scanned HEPA filters. There are three base units, the 600HS, 1200HS and 2000HS units along with the HPS portable series. The housings for the base units are split into two sections, with one section containing the blower/motor and the other section containing the filters. By modifying the sections we can offer straight through units, or left or rignt 90 degree angles and also change the type of filters that are put into the units. This design technique allows us to offer a unti to fit any configuration whether the units are installed as along with existing duct work or as stand alone systems.

Crossing Over

The acceptance by some individuals that when we leave this earth we cross over to some other dimension or plane. Our souls moving among those other people that have crossed over and suspended in some semi-purgatory state. Absolute belief in what happens to us when we cross over is often based on centuries of superstitions that morph from story to fact.

Today, crossing over also refers to those individuals who are moving from country to country to find some form of normalcy. It is a very challenging and global problem that has more challenges than answers.

Companies often find it difficult when they try to cross over to a different market, demographic or geographical area where they are not recognized or have any specific customer base. Being successful in one’s back yard was never a guarantee that across the bridge and over the river would carry your name without difficulty. Great to be optimistic, better to be realistic.

In 1985, Pure Air Systems started a company to make, market and sell a commercial grade HEPA filtration system in one single market. Small amounts of success prompted the company to reach outside its geographical market and through the use of the internet and a growing line of high performance systems the company crossed all borders including the two oceans to make Pure Air Systems an international brand. Of course this only took 31 years, but making those strides was worth the wait.

PAS is the leader in high performance, fan powered, commercial grade HEPA and Carbon based air filtration systems in North America. Their systems use variable speed motors and they can produce from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM in 1% increments. In addition, these systems can be used either attached to ducted HVAC systems in a partial by-pass mode or they can be used as stand alone units.

The systems are used in a wide variety of markets including, commercial, institutional, industrial, medical and residential. The important fact to understand about the systems made by PAS, is they only make one grade. That means that Mrs. Smith in Arkansas gets the exact same 600HS unit that GM uses in their R&D laboratory in Detroit. There are few companies in this country that can say that and mean it.

Politics Is A Noun

With all the action now taking place on TV showing every candidate from both parties vying for the Presidency, one would think that all the rhetoric about what each candidate will do for the US when elected we would have one of the most progressive governments in the world. Unfortunately there is more fluff than reality in the promises made during these primaries. And we should know this as we have heard this song before since the early 70’s; same stuff different day.

The ability to make false promises and still have someone follow you is somewhat exclusive to politics. While small businesses have often done this to their customers it is not something we often see in larger companies and publicly held companies. And the reason is simple. Customers loyalty today is spelled with a small L. If you promise one thing and deliver another in very short order your company will suffer the exodus of customers as they seek to find a more truthful company path. In politics one can easily shift blame to the past office holder or the lack of agreement by the Congress or Senate and in most cases we buy into that excuse.

Pure Air Systems started promising a new way to clean the air in your home, office, factory or medical facility in 1985. Their goal was to provide true, commercial grade HEPA filtration systems using fan powered units capable of moving up to 2000 CFM. Their first attempt to move this commercial use technology into the home market was the introduction of their model 600H unit. Creating a HEPA system that could be used in a partial by-pass configuration designed to fit onto almost any forced air, ducted heating/cooling system was quickly accepted by the heating/cooling industry and customers alike and the continued success of this concept propelled PAS into developing five more systems.

Today, 31 years later, Pure Air Systems is still fulfilling its promises to the customers both old and new to provide the best HEPA and Carbon based, fan powered, commercial grade air filtration systems in the world.

HEPA Filters

HEPA filters or High Efficient Particulate Air or Absolute filters have been around since the development of the atomic bomb. HEPA media was created in Los Alamos, New Mexico specifically to remove or reduce the alpha particles that were produced in the development of atomic fission. Yes, 1941 was the genesis of HEPA filters that we know today.

This media has the ability to remove a higher percentage of particulate under 0.3 microns than any other type of mechanical media or device on the market today. This is the filter media that is used in all hospital surgery suites, the CDC, optical manufacturing, micro-chip manufacturing and all laboratories both medical and electronic around the world. It is also the main filter used by Pure Air Systems one of the major suppliers of HEPA based, fan powered, high performance air filters in North America.

Based in Indianapolis, IN. PAS has been in business since 1985 and over 32 years has provided the best performing HEPA filtration systems any where. They have incorporated the new variable speed motors that are rated at 120/240 volt, 50/60Hz motors that allow them to be used any where in the world. PAS began with one model, the 600H unit which became the 600HS unit and then moved onto develop the 1200HS, 2000HS and 500HS portable system.

The ability to move filtered air at rates from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM at 1% increments make the Pure Air Systems filtration systems some of the most effective HEPA based air filtration systems on the market. And, over their 32 years of being in business, PAS continues to use the highest quality, made in America, components with over 10,000 units still in operation today.

HEPA filters are difficult to use in air filtration systems as they have a very high resistance and it requires very powerful motors to pull the air through the HEPA filters. Through the use of large industrial fans and motors up to 1 HP, the PAS units produce up to 2000 CFM of HEPA filtered air from their largest models.

Got Pluto?

The New Horizon’s space capsule cameras took some great pictures of Pluto’s mountainous surface and the NASA faithful were ecstatic.  If memory serves me correctly Pluto was originally one of the nine planets, including earth, closest to the sun. Then the scientists said Pluto was too small to be a planet so they unplaneted the planet and called it a moon. Now, Pluto is back in the spotlight after a billion mile journey from one of NASA’s probes took lots of pictures, including a selfie if I’m not mistaken, of this far away place that has, for all intent and purposes, absolutely no effect on the daily lives of us mere mortals.

Businesses are often like Pluto. One day they are the talk of the town and mentioned in conjunction with other elite company’s and then the next day they are gone from discussion. This doesn’t mean the company is out of business just that it’s name is not thrust into the public’s eye every day. Like Pluto they only matter when they do something relevant.

Pure Air Systems was formed in 1985 and was one of the first companies to offer true commercial grade, HEPA based air filtration systems with powerful blower/motors and digital controllers for residential, commercial and industrial applications. They hit the market at a time when HEPA filters were just becoming known to the general public and started to compete with the older filtration technologies like electronic air cleaners, UV Lights and electrostatic air filters.

Unlike these filters, HEPA filters are very restrictive and require a prefilter in front of them to take out the larger 20 plus micron sized particles. The HEPA will remove all the particles below 20 microns down to less than .012 microns. Because of the unique nature of HEPA filters they are the primary filtration device used in surgery rooms, clean rooms, micro-chip manufacturing, optical glass manufacturing, isolation rooms in hospitals and clinics, electronic manufacturing and most medical and chemical laboratories in the world.

Over time HEPA filters became more common and the public became more comfortable with their use and application. HEPA systems are more expensive so when the economy turned down company’s and the public stopped buying these units and used the lesser expensive filter systems. Even though the challenges with “hard to treat” bacteria that are now a real challenge to our health system, HEPA systems were not really considered until just recently and, like Pluto, the market now has a  new reason to look at HEPA filtration systems.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

During the early days of rock music, most songs were recorded specifically to be played on the radio. Radio stations had selected song lengths to be approximately 3 to 4 minutes long. Probably to allow for more advertising and disc jockey talk time and pay for the cost of operating the stations. As a result, many musicians wrote songs to meet this artificial time limit, even though many groups had developed elaborate arrangements that ran up to 6 minutes long. The record companies would electronically shorten the play time cutting out sections they felt would not take away from the basic gist of the song. As a result, many listeners never heard the original recordings of the songs unless they purchased the records or tapes that had, in fact, both the radio version and the original version. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was one of those songs.

Iron Butterfly recorded this as a 10 minute string of lyrics, solo drum sections, solo guitar sections and some fade in sections. Unless you purchased the record or listened to some of the more radical FM radio stations, you never heard the original long version.

Pure Air Systems was formed in 1985 and developed a line of HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems. These systems were designed from all commercial grade components and unlike their plastic housed, cheaply made competitors units, the PAS unit used all steel construction. The PAS units were designed to run for long periods of time ( 10 years plus ) with very minimal maintenance requirements other than just changing the filters on a regular scheduled basis.

The plastic, inexpensive units would operate for a few years, if that, before they had to be replaced. In addition, the cheap units often performed very poorly and made very little difference in the levels of airborne particle reduction resulting in continued respiratory challenges by the users. The PAS units began a new recognition by the public and commercial users that air filtration systems could actually perform as marketed and run for years with the same performance year over year.

As equipment designs and component pieces become simpler and less expensive, the public has been conditioned to built in obsolescence. So if it lasts only a few years, then we aren’t disappointed and just purchase the next one that was designed to replace the broken unit. The engineers and technicians at Pure Air Systems are trying to change that perception by continuing the process of making all of their systems from the best, commercial grade components that give you that extended play just like In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

Hookah

In the song “White Rabbit” but Jefferson Airplane, Grace Slick sings about a smoking caterpillar that approaches Alice. The caterpillar is called a hookah. I don’t believe that is the name of the caterpillar as a hookah is actually the water pipe he was smoking. But the lyrics make more sense with that sentence structure. It is interesting how we often sing song lyrics and never pay attention to the meaning or even if a word is correctly used in the lyrics.

Sometimes companies use words in their marketing propaganda or as part of their packaging that are, ,more often than not, misleading.  The words absolutely or guaranteed are used to express a sense of perceived satisfaction that the customer will experience when they use the product. But we know that is not often the case. Yet companies still use this marketing process to garner more business and hopefully new customers.

One of the main challenges with raising expectations for one’s product or service is the delivery. That is, if you promise one thing, but deliver another,  the customer will probably not purchase that product or service again. Funny how companies still believe that words have more power than performance. It is also a big mistake to mislead people as the use of social media now has so much power that one bad experience can be pushed to hundreds of thousands of people in a matter of minutes.

Pure Air Systems has been manufacturing and marketing HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems since 1985 and since the beginning it has marketed its line of commercial grade filtration systems as ” The Best Filtration Systems In The Market”.  Performance has always been its main promise and through its 30 years life has consistently performed at or above the expectations of its customers. Using the more expensive, commercial grade components, keeps PAS in the lead in the area of high performing HEPA systems.

Over the years PAS has added more products to its line, all of them using the same high performance components and fabrication techniques to ensure that customers buying any one of the systems would be completely satisfied with the product and its performance.
