US Designed – US Made – Pure Air Systems

Almost 80% of the products purchased on-line from Amazon, Walmart, Ebay and other web based stores, are manufactured in other countries. The majority being made in China. However, many of these products, including Apple iphones, etc, say they are designed in the US but made overseas.

Pure Air Systems has been designing and manufacturing their fan powered, commercial grade, HEPA air filtration systems since 1985. While some of the motors are now made overseas, over 90% of the components that make up the filtration system are made in the USA. These units have shown to be some of the best on the market and many of these systems are still in operation after over 20 years of service.

It is more expensive to purchase components and parts made in the USA and often times a wider selection of component and part types are available from outside the US. Manufacturing is a very challenging process and requires a lot of up front capital to obtain the machinery and skilled labor to make almost anything.

Pure Air Systems continues to look to the US companies to make any new components or parts that are needed for the existing and newly designed units. While these may be more expensive it is important to continue to use parts made in the US to keep these manufacturing operations viable.

Artificial Intelligence Moving Into Your World

Discussions about AI have been around for the past 20 years. However, the ability to use the new AI apps and software to enhance, modify, alter, create and change everything. The new platforms can revolutionize the time it takes to write books, create paintings, develop formulas, and enhance all forms of social media.

In the area of manufacturing, AI can assist in creating the most efficient way to make an object or select better materials and manufacturing methods to accomplish a task in half the time with less material usage. Companies that utilize this technology will be far ahead of the competition. For all the naysayers and podcasters that are out there down playing AI’s role in the future, the truth is that this technology will very quickly become mainstream before the end of 2023.

Pure Air Systems, a 37 year old company, manufactures a high end line of commercial grade, fan powered, HEPA based air filtration systems and is strongly considering utilizing AI to make changes to its design to cut material and production costs. As the price of all components continue to rise it is becoming more important to utilize all the tools available to maintain the bottom line and scale up the business. AI is one of these tools.

Visible vs Invisible

Our eyes allow us to focus on and see airborne particles as small as 20 microns. For comparison, the human hair is about 100 microns in diameter. Most bacteria are in the range of less than 1 to 5 microns in size and viruses are less than 0.12 microns in size. So the old adage that what you don’t see won’t hurt you is not correct.

Bacteria, when present in a warm, moist environment, can stay alive for very long periods of time. From many hours to days. Because it is heavier than viruses it will not stay airborne for very long. So most contact with bacteria comes from contact with a surface or body part that caries the bacteria.

Viruses, on the other hand, are very tiny and light and can stay airborne for long period of time. This is how the flu and cold bugs are normally transmitted. Coming in a room or close contact where these viruses are airborne can infect another human once the viruses are inhaled and ingested. This is the reason masks are used in all medical facilities, especially surgical units.

Airborne Viruses Can Be Reduced In Your Home

The Covid issue has been dissected by everyone in every discipline including social media. The fact remains that Covid is virus and like all other viruses it is extremely small ( less than .012 microns in size ) and easily transmitted through the air. While the various types of face masks that are available are not truly capable of removing 100% of the airborne viruses, they can significantly minimize the levels of virus ingestion.

In 1985 Pure Air Systems introduced an air filtration system utilizing true, commercial grade HEPA filters for the residential and commercial markets. These fan powered systems are capable of either being attached to existing HVAC systems or stand-alone.

HEPA filters are used in all hospital surgery suites, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, chip manufacturing and more. These filters are specially designed to remove airborne particles as small as viruses and are extremely efficient over their life. The type of filter media used in the HEPA filters is partially copied in some of the new face masks now on the market. Then N95 mask is one of them.

It is important to know that the viruses that are now out in the world are extremely capable of changing and adapting to new drugs and pharmaceuticals, therefore making them around as long as we inhabit this planet.

How Companies Stay In Business Beyond 30 Years

Starting a business today is easier than it has ever been. Running it and keeping it a float is another. Longevity in businesses today is no longer the norm. Companies are born, merge, change direction and die faster than ever before, so having a company stay in business and keeping it on a positive revenue stream for 30 plus years is no easy feat.

Pure Air Systems was started in 1985 by Don Musilli, and was sold in 2006. The concept of manufacturing a high end, fan powered, commercial grade, HEPA air filtration system that could be used in almost any configuration was very foreign in 1985 but the concept, the quality and performance of the systems allowed us to continually increase our market share.

Over time, Pure Air Systems added more products to its catalog and eventually ended up with 7 different systems allowing for complete penetration into the commercial and residential markets requiring high end HEPA based air filtration systems. The addition of the ECM, variable speed motors in 1999 provided an entry into the over seas market allowing us to offer 120/240 volt 50/60 Hz motors for all of our systems.

Pure Air Systems learned that feedback from its customers was important and responding to the feedback in the way of modifications to the systems was essential in growing its business. Keeping the same quality even though prices increased was necessary as people are quick to switch companies when something doesn’t work like it should. Losing customers is easy….keeping customers is hard.

Pure Air Systems is now 37 years old. That puts it in rare company these days especially for a manufacturing operation. The adage of “adapt or die” is very true today and “modifying, changing and altering” your operation to meet the changing needs of the market is critical in keeping your company moving forward and growing.

Pure Air Systems. Making A Name For Itself

Innovation is a word that is often over used in today’s market place. Some new ideas or concepts are just an alteration to an already existing product that is being labeled “innovation.”

In I985, Pure Air Systems was formed and it introduced some new concepts in fan powered, HEPA air filtration systems for both the residential and commercial markets. With an All-American made system, Pure Air Systems ventured into the air filtration market with a commercial grade, high performance, true HEPA filtration system that could be used in a wide number of applications, both residential and commercial. Initially, the PAS line of filtration units was limited to one model, and it incorporated the standard GE Induction motors and no bells and whistles.

By the 1990’s PAS had developed 5 additional models varying from the new HPS Portable line to the very large 2000 CFM 2000HS Plus unit. These new units were now using the new variable speed drive, ECM type motors that were rated, 120/240 Volt, 50/60Hz. This provided systems that could be used anywhere in the world. In addition, the new motors could be used with digital variable speed controllers offering customers the ability to adjust air flow and power performance to meet any performance specifications.

Today, Pure Air Systems is one of only 3 companies in the world that produce this type of commercial grade, high performance HEPA based air filtration system.

Pure Air Systems. American Made.

Founded in 1985, Pure Air Systems was one of the first companies to introduce true, commercial grade, fan powered HEPA air filtration systems. The first unit, model 600H, was the base model using a standard 120 volt, 60Hz GE motor, Lau blowers, scanned HEPA filters, carbon media packs and ring panel pre-filters and switches and wire harnesses. All American made.

Today, Pure Air Systems has 5 different models ranging from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM using the same metal housings, HEPA filters, carbon media packs but with the new variable speed 120/240 volt 50/60HZ motors, digital controllers and pressure gauges. Again, all of these components are currently being made in the USA. In addition, PAS is now one of only three companies in the world that manufacture these commercial grade HEPA air filtration systems.

Making products using US made components in today’s world creates some unusual issues. With most companies using components made in China or other overseas countries, competing with US made components is becoming more difficult. However, the Pure Air Systems units historically have a 15 to 20 year life cycle even in heavy duty operations. The cost may be higher but the performance is unmatched when comparing to similar products made in China.

Cigarette Smoke – Easy to See – Hard to Remove

Smoke from cigarettes and cigars is highly visible and has a distinct odor. It is pungent and will stick to any surface and re-release the odor for a long time. It will cling to clothing and stain hard surfaces over time. Of all the airborne contaminants we generate, cigarette smoke is the most difficult to remove from the air.

Smoke from cigarettes and cigars has both a particulate component and an odor component. Both difficult to capture using filtration systems. The odor can only be removed using carbon based media and the cigarette smoke will even plug up a HEPA filter over time.

The use of ozone generators or UV lights also do very little to alleviate this situation indoors and it is now  the reason smoking is prohibited in almost all indoor facilities, restaurants and eating establishments. It is just too difficult to mitigate with almost any filtration technology.

Pure Air Systems has been making high end, HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems since 1985 and one of only three companies in the world that make systems for both the commercial and residential markets. The systems range in capacity from 50 DFM to 2000 CFM and can include a prefilter, scanned HEPA filter and carbon media. The systems now all use variable speed drive motors and are digitally controlled. The units are also capable of being used in 120/240 50/60hz applications.

Summer Months and Home Indoor Air Quality

For the majority of the U.S., Summer represents hot days, hot nights and in many parts of the U.S., high humidity. This means that for the most part people will remain indoors in their homes, offices and shopping areas in the presence of cool, air conditioning.

While air conditioning keeps the interior space cool and removes the majority of the humidity, the lack of any outside fresh air means that all the air in the home, office, school or shopping areas is stagnant or stale. Without any type of effective air filtration, the levels of airborne particles (which can include, human skin, bug matter, airborne dust and debris of all types) will increase 10 fold. And, if there are animals present, then the potential for high concentrations of animal dander may occur.

In order to minimize the health hazards of breathing stale, polluted indoor air for long periods of time, we recommend using good air filters on your returns or consider putting one of our 600HS Plus HEPA systems on your ducted forced air HFAC system. With the unique partial-bypass installation concept it is possible to filter all the air in your house up to 24 times per day and introduce a small amount of outside, filtered fresh air without upsetting the AC temperature and humidity in your home.

HEPA Systems For New Intel Chip Manufacturing Facilities

Intel is investing $20 Billion dollars to build two state-of-the-art Micro Chip manufacturing plants in Albany, Ohio. Chip manufacturing is done in Class 10 and Class 100 clean room facilities which are constantly being cleaned by HEPA filters with the rooms being under positive air pressure.

Chips are comprised of multiple layers and then assembled together. These layers are highly sensitive to any airborne particulate, even in the sub-micron level, as the dust particle will destroy the chips function and short it out when in use. The types of HEPA filters used in the manufacturing and assembly areas are normally comprised of a series of HEPA’s in banks. They use HEPA, ULPA and SULPA HEPA filters that will remove 99.9999% of all particles 0.12 microns and smaller. As as comparison, the Human hair is about 100 microns in diameter.

Pure Air Systems has been providing commercial grade, fan powered, scanned HEPA filters ( 99.99% at 0.3 microns) since 1985. Many of these systems have been and are being used in smaller micro chip operations, medical facilities, hospitals, military and institutional plants. The PAS systems range from 50 CFM up to 2000 CFM and can include Carbon media along with a Prefilter.
