Indoor Air Quality A Real Problem In Residential Market
Over the past 15 years, the construction methods for building homes have created an indoor environment that can create health issues for the homeowners. 50 years ago most homes were built with little understanding of how their construction techniques were making the homes a breading ground for bacteria and viruses to grow. The homes were fairly air tight and the HVAC systems, in many cases, created stagnant air flow throughout the home. This meant that the air in the homes was constantly being recirculated with little or no fresh air being introduced into the living space. The filters used in the HVAC units and return air grills were ( and still are ) general duty air filters designed primarily to remove large particles and minimize the static pressure resistance through the HVAC ducting systems.
Today’s new homes are required to have positive pressure in the living space whenever the HVAC systems are on. This means, that when you open the door or window ( when HVAC is working ) the air should push out or flow out of the house. This means there is little to no fresh air being introduced into the home. Couple this with the fact that much of furnishings in our homes are now made overseas and there are some materials used in the fabrication of the tables, sofa’s, beds and bedding, etc. that can off-gas into the living space for a long time. These chemicals, along with airborne particulate from the use of these items, can create a very unhealthy environment.
Pure Air Systems, Inc. has been making HEPA and Carbon based, fan-powered, commercial grade air filtration systems since 1985. For over forty years PAS has provided air filtration systems that can be attached to the return air side of any HVAC unit and bring in outside, filtered fresh air. Be bringing in even a small amount of air such as 100 CFM ( cubic feet per minute ), this can add up to 124,000 cubic feet of fresh air into the home every 24 hours meaning all the air in the house is being exchanged 1.3 times every 24 hour cycle. This helps to keep the home environment safer and cleaner for its occupants. It also helps to dilute the amount of gaseous pollutants that are always present in most homes.
