Ebola Is A Virus

With all the concern about Ebola one must remember the reason that Ebola, like many other dangerous pathogens, is a virus and in terms of size it is very, very tiny. Less than .012 microns in size. It requires the most efficient HEPA type filters to trap these tiny microorganisms, usually requiring a SULPA filter ( Super Ultra Low Penetrating Absolute ) HEPA filter.  This is one of the main reasons for concern when treating or being near someone who has the virus. It is easily dispersed and so tiny that many of the normal preventative gowns, masks and gloves may not be sufficient to protect everyone from coming in contact with the virus.

The use of HEPA filters for clean rooms and chip manufacturers has been around for years and hospitals require them for their surgery rooms and isolation patient care rooms. In the field, however, it is very difficult to establish truly isolated rooms or areas where those  infected with the disease can be effectively isolated from health care workers.

Pure Air Systems has been manufacturing HEPA based, fan powered  air filtration systems since 1985 and over the years more of their larger HEPA units have been shipped to the third world countries to establish some form of controlled isolation rooms and facilities to at  least try to  maintain some form of sterile  environment for treating the sick.

Now the military is establishing small isolation “tent style” portable facilities in Liberia and other near by locations to attempt  to isolate those infected with Ebola to both treat and contain the spread of the virus. These tents use HEPA filtered air and try to mimic the same type of isolation room style used in the US hospital facilities. Difficult to do but better than the alternative.

We need to remember that the most harmful of viruses and bacteria can not be seen with the naked eye so we tend to forget that being around people that are sick or infected can be problematic especially for those  individuals with weakened immune systems. Exposure doesn’t always have to be physical, it can very often be airborne so just being in the same general area with those infected can be an issue.

Pure Air Systems sells a wide variety of HEPA filtration systems ranging from 50 CFM to 2000 CFM using variable speed  controllers to allow for finite volume control to fit the specific application. While all the systems are designed as commercial units they are used by home owners and the general public on a regular basis. PAS is considered a leader in the field of HEPA  filtration and learning more about their  systems and capabilities can be a healthy choice.

Surviving The Transition

The years from 2006 through 2012 are now referred to as the last recession. I don’t agree. The major unraveling of our economy began when the major multi-national corporations began to move their engineering, R& D and assembly and manufacturing operations off-shore. They found the cost savings were extraordinary as they could retire many of their highly paid senior executives and engineers and the cost of labor overseas was much lower than the US based operations. In addition, the environmental laws and lower health care costs significantly added to the bottom line.

The second part of the economic collapse began when greed took over the housing market. Well greed and the lack of any controls over who could borrow money and how much credit was extended with little thought for paying it back. This was the U.S. Banking industry at its lowest point of operational functionality. Combine the unrealistic expectations that housing prices would climb 5% a month forever and the continued movement of high paying jobs off-shore and you had the beginning of the major transition that changed our economic landscape.

Pure Air Systems, a small manufacturing company in Indianapolis, makes some of the most effective, high performance HEPA based, fan powered air filtration systems on the market. Much of their growth came from the residential market while slowly building upon their commercial product line. The demise of the housing market hit the company very hard, but because they had a large number of residential units already in the field ( PAS started in 1985) the replacement filter part of their operation continued to grow. With the addition of two new systems designed specifically for the commercial, institutional, medical and industrial markets PAS was able to supplement their residential sales market with these higher priced systems. In addition, the commercial systems required more frequent changes of their three filters so the revenue stream from the “annuity” side of the business allowed for continued operations of the company while the economy went through its transition.

In 2014 Pure Air Systems is stronger and profits are coming back. Also, the addition of a new “FDA Medically Approved” portable will significantly add to the bottom line when this system goes into production in early 2015. Many large and small companies, in both retail and manufacturing, left us forever during the transition. Now that the new economy is forming more new companies will come onto the scene, hopefully with some understanding of how even small changes can affect their bottom line.

So Far…So Good

In a world that seems to be under going tumultuous changes on a daily basis, it is easy to be concerned about the future and keeping any of the sane social structure of our recent past. It seems the negative-ites, as I call them, are out in full force. Social media has allowed more negative news, and apocalyptic prophecies today than any time in our history.  If someone has a bias toward a certain person, party or issue, there is a ton of fodder produced every day to feed their fire. It seems as though there is little to be happy about and that “the end is near” signs are painted on the subway halls and tenement walls.. ( sorry S&G ).

I, however, am not deterred. I am like the eternal optimist that stepped off the top of a six story building and was heard to say on the way down, ” so far..so good!” It is easy to forget that the majority of people are very grounded and are more human than animal. The problem is the “noise” being made by the angry few tends to drown out the mellow sounds of civility. The ” recession” as some call it was probably more of a transition from a one continent dominant policy ( USA) to a multi-continent technological movement leaving the USA behind the world growth curve. This and other factors create a sense of dread when changes take place faster than we can adapt. Also, the younger generation is much less entrenched in the past than our current senior population.

Companies that dwell in the past and think their products and services will always be in demand are not being realistic. Their optimism is shrouded in the false belief that people will always want and need their services, until some new company comes along and redefines their market model and rolls over them before they knew what hit them. Sound familiar?

Pure Air Systems was formed in 1985 and its business model was based upon the use of commercial grade, certified HEPA based filtration systems used primarily in the electronics industry. They were, however, moving this technology to the residential market which had little or no knowledge of this type of air filtration technology. Being the eternal optimists, PAS knew that over time this technology would be adapted by the non-commercial market and 28 years later their business model has proven correct.

Today, PAS has a line of seven filtration systems that use certified, scanned HEPA filters along with the newer ECM motors for variable volume control and for use in a world-wide market. Sometimes it takes a little faith along with the optimism to make the impossible, possible. There are always people that will tell you the “sky is falling” or that ” the end of the world as we know it is near,” however, that is seldom the case and for those that follow the path of sanity and objectivity , the end result will be pretty much what you expected.

Critical Care!

We often hear on the news or read online about someone who sustained an injury, is in the hospital and is listed as critical. Critical care involves close, constant attention by a team of specially-trained medical personnel whose primary job is keeping the patient alive. There are critical care nurses that are specially trained to deal with the medical care required for patients that are critical.

Of course, the word critical is also used when speaking of a certain component for a piece of equipment such as the oxygen system in a jet fighter which is a critical component that allows the pilot to breathe above 14,000 feet. Or, this term is also used when we urgently need to get someone to someplace as soon as possible; as in it is critical that Jim be there for this meeting.

Pure Air Systems has been manufacturing commercial grade, certified HEPA and Carbon based air filtration systems for the commercial, institutional, industrial and residential markets since 1985.  These systems incorporate scanned, tested and certified HEPA filters, identical to those used in surgery rooms and microchip manufacturing where keeping the air free from sub micron particles is “critical.”

In applications like optics, satellite production, pharmaceutical manufacturing and all those areas where a “clean room” environment is critical to the exacting performance required, the HEPA systems by PAS meet or exceed those capabilities. In medical situations where someone needs to be isolated for a bone marrow transplant or has a communicable disease, these HEPA systems by Pure Air Systems are a critical component in these operations.

These HEPA and Carbon based systems are designed so they be used either as stand alone units or attached to an existing heating/cooling ventilation system. They are designed to operate on any electrical power source world wide and are built to last as long as 20 years with only changing the filters and perhaps one motor during this life cycle.

As The World Grows Up – The Demand For High Tech Health Care Grows With It

Remember when you talked about the US and Europe as first world countries and the rest of the world as second or third world countries? Remember when Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China and even Korea were not even considered in the global GDP numbers?Well a lot has changed in the past twenty years and now all of these countries are becoming mass exporters of goods to the US and the rest of the world. China is now an economic powerhouse and South Korea is building world-class cars.

Countries in the African continent and South America are now becoming more industrialized and with the use of the digital network are in touch with the world via Facebook and Twitter. And, like the rest of the industrialized countries they want better health care for all their citizens.

Very few of the lesser industrialized nations have any domestic manufacturers of drugs and medical equipment so the vast majority is imported from Europe and the US. Some of it is also manufactured in China and the smaller Asian countries. One of the biggest challenges is providing hospitals and health care facilities that are designed to do more than just tread minor injuries. They require surgery suites and isolation rooms for many of the health care challenges these countries have to deal with and in many cases these facilities just don’t exist.

However, in many cases they have converted old buildings and even trailers into semi-surgery rooms with much of the same medical equipment we see in hospitals here in the US. The conditions in these facilities is not always sterile so post operative infections are very common. To help eliminate this problem a number of facilities and organizations that run these medical facilities have  looked to companies like Pure Air Systems to provide portable, high performance HEPA based air filtration systems to help reduce and eliminate the post operative infection problems.

Pure Air Systems has been producing commercial grade, high performance HEPA and Carbon based air filtration systems since 1985 for the residential, commercial, institutional and industrial markets both in the US and overseas. In the past three years PAS has shipped over 30 HEPA systems to medical facilities in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. These units are used to both pressurize and deliver HEPA filtered air in a surgery suite or operating room at rates up to 30 air changes per hour.

The PAS systems can produce up to 2000 CFM of HEPA filtered air through the use of a motor driven fan using a ECM motor that is rated at 120/240v 50/60 Hz so it will operate on any electrical system anywhere in the world. The digitally controlled motor allows for finite speed adjustment so it can be operated from 10% of volume to 100% in 1% increments. This allows for installation in various sized rooms using one system. The HEPA filters are all commercial grade, certified to 99.99% at 0.3 microns.

PURE AIR SYSTEMS SEES 60% GROWTH IN INTERNATIONAL MARKET

Pure Air Systems Ships HEPA Filtration System To Japan

Since 1985, Pure Air Systems has been designing, manufacturing and marketing its line of high end, commercial grade certified HEPA air filtration systems. Residential, commercial, institutional, military and industrial customers around the world have used the PAS systems for reduction and or removal of airborne contaminants as small as 0.012 microns in diameter. Pure Air Systems was the first air filtration company to incorporate the GE (Genteq) ECM digitally controlled variable speed motors that are rated 120/240 volt, 50/60 Hz. The addition of these global application motors gave Pure Air Systems the ability to market the complete line of HEPA based filtration systems to companies anywhere in the world.

In June of 2009 Pure Air Systems received an order from Yaw Automation in Osaka, Japan for one of its’ 2000HS series HEPA systems that produces up to 2000 CFM of HEPA filtered air. Yaw Automation is using the 2000 HS unit in one of their automated process lines that requires a close to clean room environment. The 2000HS, with its variable speed motor and digital speed controller, allow the Yaw engineers to fine tune the amount of HEPA air required for their specific application.

In addition to the Yaw Automation in Japan Pure Air Systems has recently shipped systems to Cure International for its Hospitals in Niger and Malawi Africa; Natural Products Pharmaceuticals in South Africa and Vemco, Ltd in Trinidad and Nano Diamond Products in Ireland.
